I rigged a length of small cord (rope) with an S hook on end and a big knot on the other. Tow With Dolly & Tow Bar (Not At the Same Time)ģ8N Expedition with that awning. I do not understand about the metal slats. If I knew that it wouldn't effect the resale value of the coach I would have had Camping World install a manual awning that could have been lowered on one side or the other. My awning gets retracted if I even think there is the slightest chance of rain whether I'm at the coach or not. So after spending $1700 for a new awning and chalking it up to live and learn. I reviewed several topics on this forum pertaining to Weatherpro Awnings and took the responses to Camping World (dealer for Weatherpro) and they talked to Dometic (manufacturer of Weatherpro) and Dometic said the awning did not have a rain sensor or dumping feature and that I was pretty much SOL. We had the same problem when we were on vacation in Florida and a sudden rain came up - the awning did not retract, totally destroying the arm closest to the door and put a gash in the coach and bent the passenger window. In other words, YOU need to retract the awning in the conditions that you are experiencing. Damage caused by Hi wind or rain is not covered by warranty". However, When periods of HEAVY rain or wind are expected or if you leave the awning unattended the awning should be closed. "The A&E Weatherpro is extremely durable and can be operated during LIGHT Rain and wind conditions. The A&E operating instructions comes with a large box that states in large letters "CAUTION". There will be certain rains that will overpower the awning and the awning cannot shed the water fast enough even IF you have the auto collapse arm. The system does TRY to shed the water, but that is IF YOU forget to retract the awning in wet weather or hi winds. THAT IS NOT how the system is designed to operate and I cannot believe that A&E did not inform you of that after they replaced the awning. Yes, the one model is supposed to have an arm retract to shed water. They were told those arms will not work over a slide and they have to live with the high awning. I don't have a patio slide and my WeatherPro drops down to 6 1/2 feet above the ground and water runs off like a duck's back and there is no need for it to dump, but it will if it needs to.Īt the Newmar plant several owners looked at my awning and told Newmar they wanted the same arms as I have. A&E has two different part numbers for the arms - one for patio slide montorhomes and one for non-slide motorhomes. I know my reply won't help you but it may help others looking to buy a motorhome with the A&E WeatherPro Awning. I don't dare leave it out if there is any chance of rain. I have the same problem on my Expedition. Any one else have this problem? If so any solutions. I spoke to one owner and they have had the same problems I have. We were at the campground on Hilton Head Island a few weeks ago and I walked around the campground and it appeared that every Fleetwood RV (including a Discovery) with the third slide on the passenger side had a bent awning tube. They had a new awning installed and it works some better but I still have a lot of water stay on the awing and have to take a broom and push up on the awning to get the water to run off. Since it was mounted on top the awning had to be several inches longer for it to fully extend and if not extended correctly the end wouldn't drop when heavy. But it didn'tAfter many phone calls, a knowledgable guy at A&E figured out the Fleetwood had installed the wawning. One end of the awining is supposed to drop down and let the water run off when it gets heavy with water. The first time I had the awning out and it rained, ALL the water stayed on the awning and bent the aliminum tube. Due to the slide on the passenger slide the awnings is mounted on top of the RV instead of the side to allow the kitchen slide to open. I have a 2004 Southwind 37C with triple slides.
